Stock prices remain near record highs and earnings estimates are still rising, but the rate of positive EPS estimate revisions is beginning to cool. This presentation explains The Earnings Scout’s “Alligator Jaw” warning signal, compares today’s setup with 2021, and highlights what investors should watch next to determine whether 2027 could become an ugly year for stocks.
Nick Raich, CFA, is the Founder and CEO of The Earnings Scout, an independent institutional research firm specializing in corporate earnings trends.
With more than 30 years of experience in equity research and investment strategy, Nick has spent his career studying the relationship between changes in corporate earnings expectations and stock market performance. Prior to founding The Earnings Scout in 2013, he served as Director of Research at Key Private Bank, where he led fundamental equity research and helped guide portfolio strategy.
Nick is a regular guest on CNBC, Bloomberg, and Schwab Network, and his market insights are frequently quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, and other leading financial publications. His research is followed by professional investors seeking an independent, data-driven view of the earnings trends driving individual stocks, sectors, and the broader market.
Raich has a BS in Finance and an MBA from Youngstown State University. He is a member of the Forbes Investment Panel, a member of the Lariccia School of Accounting and Finance Advisory Council at Youngstown State and is a Chartered Financial Analyst®.
